Fasten Your Seat Belts And Hold On Because These 26 Tips Will Absolutely Help You To Get What You Want In Life!
Are YOU REALLY ready to get what you want in life?
It seems like every day you hear of people who have realized their dreams, sometimes against improbable odds. Why not you?
Take for instance…
The person who invented some tech gadget and just sold their business for millions of dollars; the athlete who overcame unlikely odds and rose from obscurity to stardom; the entrepreneur who kept going despite skepticism and finally hit it big.
Of course, those stories stand out because they are not the norm for most people, but that is part of the problem. You have to believe.
However, success stories reassure us that realizing YOUR dreams is possible. Your dream could be anything YOU want it to be, but you have to know how to make it happen.
So…
I have compiled 26 specific tips that will help you get what you want in your life NOW!
Your job is to take these tips and apply them in your life. They work.
Let’s get started…
1) Believe It Can Happen
Believing it can happen is half the battle.
Some of the biggest obstacles to success for most people are self-limiting beliefs and narratives that erode faith and prevent them from full commitment. As the famous 10 time NCAA champion basketball coach John Wooden said, “Be at your best when your best is needed and your best is needed every day.”
If you don’t fully believe it can happen… you won’t fully engage and that will just about finish any chance you have of being successful.
2) Write What You Want Down – Be Specific
A dream can’t just be in your head, YOU have to operationalize it on paper as a mission, an end goal and a set of sub-goals that will get you where you want to go.
When it is all said and done…
Realizing YOUR goal is about DOING not dreaming.
An amazing idea starts out in your imagination and comes to fruition when you translate it into action.
Take for instance this guy…
Einstein was sitting under a tree one day watching shafts of light filter through the clouds. He wondered what it would be like to ride on a sunbeam. He went back to the lab, got out his pencil and paper and came up with the theory of relativity.
Let’s face it… a dream has an ethereal vague quality to it, but unless you get down to brass tacks, it will always remain vague — and unfulfilled. Writing is thinking and writing is editing. As you translate your vision into actionable steps you will sculpt an intention into a possibility.
And… if you believe it is possible… you can make it happen!
Hint: Make sure you Ask For It too refer to #23
3) Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff
Stress zaps your time and more importantly your energy. And along the way you are going to encounter a lot of aggravating small stuff. Keep your cool and keep your perspective. Don’t waste time getting derailed by the small stuff. Someone has it way worse than you.
4) Don’t Get Uptight Over The Big Stuff
Let’s get real… YOU are going to go through some big stuff in your life. You probably already have.
Guess what?
So does everybody else.
The key here is to deal with the big stuff not be consumed with it. Stress mode is typically not the best brain state to generate creative and adaptive solutions that are often needed to solve formidable problems.
Unless you are actually being chased by a tiger, going into fight-flight mode is just not adaptive. Success will depend on YOU dealing with these issues not letting them get the best of you.
5) Be Tough As Nails
One of the biggest requirements for success is resilience. You might not know the exact form obstacles will take but bank on encountering them — lots of them. It is never going to be a straight line between your goal and success. You will be challenged almost every day by the unexpected and the oppositional.
Hint:
I knock over obstacles, go through them, and create game plans to overcome them then I put them to bed. They end up in my rear view mirror and I don’t look back.
The most important thing to remember is don’t stop once you encounter problems. #keepmoving
6) Develop A Growth Mindset
Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck makes the distinction between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset. The former keeps you inside the box, the latter dissolves the box. Adaptation requires innovation, creative thinking and an ability to see solutions unimpeded by expectations or even conventional wisdom.
If you are doing what everyone else is doing, if you are thinking just like everyone else is thinking, you probably don’t have a competitive advantage or are not doing something distinctive.
Get rid of the box and never stop growing.
7) If Your Why Isn’t Big Enough You Won’t Do What It Takes To Get What You Want
Never Lose Sight Of Your “Why” – Simon Sinek (Ted X) says that many organizations make the big mistake when talking about or advertising their products of telling people about what they do and how they do it, but neglect to tell them the most important part of the equation — why they do it.
What drives your mission is not just important for you, it’s important for your potential clients. Who would you prefer to go to for medical advice: a doctor whose main goal is to make money or a doctor whose main goal is to prevent suffering?
Or…
How about a doctor who wants to publish scientific papers or a doctor who wants to cure cancer? Your ‘why’ is essential and should always be communicated first.
Remember this…
Your “Why” should always be obvious from how YOU behave.
8) Learn From Your Mistakes To Get What You Want Faster
Missteps And miscues are part of the deal Having a growth mindset as mentioned in #6 means that you will learn from your mistakes, and there will be plenty of mistakes.
But you can’t allow yourself the luxury of bemoaning the setbacks because well, it’s not adaptive and besides you will learn a lot, maybe most, from what doesn’t work. Yes, your life’s education may cost you, but having paid the price, will make sure you learn the lesson and get you to where you want faster.
Einstein said it best… Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting the same results. Learn and move forward.
9) Prepare For Success
Imagine this…
You are grinding your butt off and a buzz is created…
The next thing you know you are invited on a major television program and you don’t have your book out, or available on Amazon.
Now what?
Some of the biggest problems occur when you finally achieve your goal and you discover that you’re not ready.
#WAKEUP
That is potentially a public relations disaster or at the very least a major embarrassment. Sure, things can catch fire quickly often through unforeseen events, but you must be ready and have contingency plans for when your boat comes in.
10. Kill Doubt
#aintnobodygottimeforthat
It is likely that, as obstacles arise or your expectations aren’t met, doubt creeps in to your thinking. You can’t let doubt take hold. If you are doing something that is fresh, creative and innovative, doubt is likely.
Listen…
If you are doing a creative project and you don’t have some doubt, you shouldn’t be doing it. Doubt comes with the territory but don’t let doubt take over.
#Killdoubt
11) Don’t Listen To Others When…
Other people have their own agendas, perspectives and passions that are NOT YOURS.
Guess what… not everyone wants you to succeed…
- There are people who are jealous, negative and fixed in their thinking.
- There are people who don’t get it, or don’t want to get it.
- There are people who are narrow-minded and wide of the mark.
Pay no attention. There’s no time for other people’s opinions who don’t matter… so don’t be deflected.
Remember this…
Your dreams are not their dreams… so how the heck do you expect them to be fired up about it?
12) Do Listen To Others When…
There are some people, however, who have been there before and can give you great advice about your journey. These are people you need to listen to. They are called mentors and coaches. Although each journey is unique there are people who know a lot about the roads to take, how to travel them, what to wear, what to bring, and how to interpret the signs along the way. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel.

13. Work Damn Hard
There are no easy shortcuts to success. As Thomas Edison said, “Opportunity…. shows up in overalls and looks like hard work.” It is hard work. There will be times when you will be consumed with your pursuit and working long hours.
Hey, if it were easy everyone would be doing it. There are a lot of variables that you can’t control but this one you can. How much effort you put into it is entirely up to you.
Massive Action = Massive Results
14) Don’t Make Money Your First Priority Because…
You won’t make any money. Your priority should be making the best product or providing the best service, and creating the marketing machine to facilitate the sales. #PERIOD
When you do that, the money will come. But making money your first priority will deflect your energy and emphasis. Money is the consequence not the product.
And most importantly…
Remember if your “why” is just to make money, others will see it and it will diminish your chance of success.
15) Developing Relationships Is…
Absolutely crucial to your success. People can bring you the world… If you let them.
You don’t live in a social vacuum. You must be open to receiving others in your life.
Been burned before?
Who hasn’t? Get over it.
Don’t make the mistake of shutting down just because someone screwed you over.
Other people can be critical to your success by opening doors, or providing you access to the people and resources you need. There will be key people who can advance your project, whether they are employees, hired contractors or simply people who want to help.
16) Invest In Relationships Don’t Just…
Don’t just have relationships, invest in them. How you treat others will go a long way in establishing your brand. If you treat your team members well, they will be engaged and far more productive.
You can enlist people to sign on to your dream with your passion and drive, once you have engaged them. This investment is the first step in getting other people to buy in. Until other people buy in to what you are trying to do, you’re on your own.
The first investors, and I don’t mean financial investors I mean emotional investors, are the ones who really take the project to the next level. You need to be likeable, attractive, trustworthy, respectful, appreciative and caring.
17) Become So Valuable That People Can’t Live Without You Or Your Expertise
Want to be paid more today?
You have to stand out from the crowd.
You can think that you are the best at what you do, or you can be the only one doing what you do, or a combination of both.
But…
It is very likely that there are many people who share your same skill-sets but YOUR goal is to do whatever you do in your own unique way, with your passion and YOUR WHY on full display at all times.
18) Step Back And Look At The Big Picture
Every now and again you need to step back and review your progress. Look at the different aspects of your entire project. It is very easy to run on auto-pilot or continue to make the same assumptions when circumstances have changed. That could be anything from new technology to the arrival of a new competitor.
Adaptation is the name of the game and the sooner can you can detect changes and adapt, the better you will be.
19) Never Stop Learning Because…
You will begin to lose your value. It is easy when you have reached a certain level of expertise to think you know it all. You don’t. Sure, you may have heard about all the hours needed to get to high level of skill but that doesn’t mean there’s a ceiling on your development does it?
And even if your skill-set has reached a ceiling there are still many new ways in which those skills can be delivered, manifested, promoted, and so on.
In today’s ever changing world there’s always more things to know and new ways of doing them.
20) Stop Believing Others Have Something You Don’t
Everyone wakes up and puts their pants/skirts on just like you do. They put one shoe on, then the other one. They put a shirt on, they style their hair, grab their cell phone, grab a bite to eat, brush their teeth, chug coffee, and start their day….
JUST LIKE YOU DO!
Stop selling yourself short.
The fact of the matter is…
Some people are getting better results than you. That’s it.
Believe in yourself.

21) Changing Your Environment Is Critical To Your…
Success!
If you are not getting what you want fast enough change these three:
- People – YOU hang out with
- Places – YOU frequent
- Things – YOU do
It may not happen overnight, but scratch, claw, and fight to change the aforementioned and you will get what you want much sooner. Shed the dead weight and free yourself.
22) Make it a WIN/WIN
If someone you deal with gets the short end of the stick, or if whoever you do business with get continually gets the raw end of the deal, the word will get out and people won’t want to do work with you. I believe I get so much of what I want because I try my hardest to make every transaction, business or personal, a WIN/WIN.
In fact… I try to give more than I receive and “OVER DELIVER”…
And guess what…
It comes back to me over and over again. #karma
23) You Have To Ask For What You Want
Not only do you have to write down what you want… you have to ask for it. Be specific. You need to read out load what you want over and over again each day.
Who are you asking? The universe
Corny?
Maybe… but it works
Remember that if you want new things to happen, you have to think differently and do differently.
I do this in the morning, through out the day, and before I goto bed. I Rinse and repeat. This is called “self talk” and I’ve got to tell you… you are what you put into your mind.
If the universe doesn’t know what you want… how do you expect to get it. You need to make sure you take a look at #24 too
24) You Have To Be Open To Receiving (Not Closed Off) What You Write Down And What You Ask For
Many people miss this step and wonder why they don’t get what they want. You have to be open to the possibility that what your write down and ask for is on it’s way. So many people are closed off with their body language, their thinking, and their overall disposition. Does this describe YOU?
It could be what is holding you back.
Don’t skip this important tip:)
25) Being Positive Goes A Long Way
Negativity goes a long way too! So… make sure you get all the negative influences out of your life. They will only drag you down and hinder your ability to get what you want today.
26) Be True To Yourself
If you are not being true to yourself you are short changing yourself and the world for that matter. You undoubtedly have something very special in you that no one else can do better, that the world needs to see or you wouldn’t have made it through this post.
